International Písek Folklore Festival
15th International Písek Folklore Festival
19 to 23 August 2009, Písek
Five to six hundred performers take part in the Písek festival every year. The event opens on Wednesday evening with a concert by the invited groups in the Palacký gardens. On Thursday the foreign ensembles introduce themselves in a program entitled “Welcome, friends”. Friday belongs to children´s and adult ensembles from Bohemia and Moravia. Saturday is the day of the festive costumed parade through the town. The main gala program takes place in the afternoon. The Sunday “Farewell to the Festival” takes place on the city island.
Among the many historical monuments of the royal town of Písek we should mention at least the Písek castle, the town hall, and the oldest stone bridge in Bohemia.
