73rd “Šumava Wreath” ball
14 February 2009, Prague
“Šumava Wreath” is a grand costumed ball of the interesting ethnographic region of Chodsko and Pošumaví (the area of the Šumava mountain range in South Bohemia). During their long history, these “Šumava Wreathes” have become a great favorite among those to whom the Chodsko region is dear. The grandiose feast of the Chods is attended every year by natives and friends of the Chodsko and Pošumaví region who have linked their lives to work far away from their homeland, especially those who have found their second home in Prague. Together with present dwellers of Chodsko villages, they stamp the “wreathes” with a unique and unrepeatable sign. Their colorful costumes turn the dance halls into one large flowering meadow. The 2009 “Šumava Wreath” will take place in both main halls and in the adjoining ceremonial rooms of the National House in the Prague neighborhood of Smíchov. More information at www.nds.cz.
