14th South Bohemian Folklore Festival Kovářov

 28 to 31 May, 2009

This festival originated in 1996 as a one day review of adult folk ensembles from South Bohemia. Over the years it was extended to include performances by south Bohemian children´s groups, guests from other parts of the Czech Republic and from abroad, a traditional fair, handicraft workshops, exhibitions of smiths´ craft, an afternoon entertainment for children, theatre performances, festive parades, air-balloon rides, gatherings of the ensembles, funfests, or concerts. The stage program focuses on domestic, i. e. south Bohemian folk groups.

Geographically Kovářov belongs to the the Central Bohemian Highlands, whose characteristic undulating surface with shallow valleys invites to strolls in beautiful nature. Visitors of Kovářov may also admire the Gothic All Saints´ church, the Baroque rectory, or the sandstone statue of St John of Nepomuk and the double sculpture named Calvary, work of the famed  baroque sculptor Brokoff.
