35th International Folklore Festival “Below the Zvičina Hill”
18 to 21 June 2009,
More than 250 folklore ensembles have visited the International Folklore Festival called “Festivities below the Zvičina Hill” in Lázně (Spa) Bělohrad, a spa resort in the scenic foothills of the Krkonoše (Giant Mountains). The festival was first held in 1974 and after several visits of foreign folk groups it became international in 1996. The main programs of this four-day event take place in the veautiful environment of Anna¨s peat spa. In 2000 a new curious program called Polka Rally was added. It is a 200 m polka race.
The picturesque township of Lázně Bělohrad lies in a wonderful, environmentally pure hollow. One of the most interesting historical monuments in the environs is the Pecka castle. The sculptural and stone-cutting tradition of the area is represented by Hořice – the town of stone beauty. The attractiveness of the district is hightened by the well-known Safari Zoological Garden in Dvůr Králové.
