13th International Folklore Festival Plzeň
10 to 14 June, 2009, Plzeň (Pilsen)
Since its first year in 1997, the Plzeň festival has been a meeting place for lovers of folklore and folk art. It welcomes annually about twenty adult and children´s folk ensembles from the Czech Republic and abroad, including guests from exotic countries. The various festival events take place in the historical city center in the pleasant environment of Kopecký Gardens. Hundreds of performers in colorful folk costumes create an unrepeatable atmosphere with their music, dancing, and singing.
Founded in 1295, Plzeň has been a natural economic and cultural center of West Bohemia. Its best known monuments include St Bartholomew Cathedral, the Renaissance town hall, and the old synagogue. Much-sought-for is the world-known Plzeň´s brewery Plzeňský Prazdroj (Pilsner Urquell).
