35th International Folklore Festival “Rožnov Festivities”
3 to 5 July 2009, Rožnov pod Radhoštěm The International Folklore Festival “Rožnov Festivities” if held once every two years in the the Wallachian open-air museum of rural architecture in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm (founded in 1925). The starting point was an idea of the Jaroněk brothers, founders of the museum. “Dances, folk ceremonials, merry-making, and plays cannot be kept in museum showcases. They can live only if danced and experienced anew. Therefore the courtyard of history built by museologic science will periodically turn into a whirlpool of joyous expression of songs and various customs of our folk, enlivened with authentic Wallachian costumes, and it will be an integral component of our museum.” The program of folk ensembles is completed with a handicraft fair and sampling of traditional gastronomic specialities (see www.vmp.cz). Worth visiting is the nearby Radhošť mountain with a statue of the pagan god Radegast, Pustevny on the Radhošť mountain ridge with beautiful buildings by Dušan Jurkovič, and other places of interest.
