7th International Folklore Festival “On the Bystřice Green“
3 to 5 July 2009, Bystřice pod Hostýnem
A few years ago the Wallachian Folklore ensemble “Rusava” came with the idea of arranging a folk meeting in which folklore groups from different regions of the Czech Republic would acquaint the inhabitants of Bystřice por Hostýnem and its surroundings with folk songs, dances, and customs of their respective ethnographic areas. The meeting developed into a festival with a rich program and an interesting international participation. The main festival day is Saturday. The morning belongs to children´s groups. The afternoon begins with the festive parade of all the ensembles through the town, followed by the main program called “On the Bystřice Green” (see www.rusava.net).
The festival terminates on Sunday with a “Meeting in the Park” and performances by the foreign groups in a garden restaurant. Part of the event is a handicraft fair and sampling of Wallachian culinary specialities. Particularly worth visiting among the local sights are the Bystřice Chateau and Svatý Hostýn (The Sacred Hill of Hostýn), the most visited Marian pilgrimage place in Moravia.
