21st International Folklore Festival “Meeting with Folklore”
21 to 23 August 2009, Hradec Králové
“Meeting with Folklore” is a kind of a “chamber” folk event, with only four to six participating ensembles. On the first day, after a parade through the town of Hradec Králové, the ensembles present the main festival program in Jirásek Gardens. In the evening the performances shift to the pedestrian zone of the town. The next day the program continues in Hrádek u Nechanic. The festival is a true meeting in which the organizing local ensemble, Kvítek (Floweret), creates a friendly atmosphere for their guests at all times.
The historical royal town of Hradec Králové (“Queen´s Fortress”, signifying that it was a dower town of Czech Queens) lies in the north-east of Bohemia, at the confluence of the rivers Labe (Elbe) and Orlice. It is renowned for its unique approach to city planning, modern architecture from the first third of the 20th century, and a high proportion of green areas.
