12th Country Festivities at Holašovice
25 and 26 July,2009, Holašovice
This two-day folk fest is focused on a typical country fair displaying both traditional and non-traditional handicrafts from the whole of the Czech Republic and from Slovakia. The festivities on two large stages are accompanied by a rich cultural program with international participation. A third, smaller stage is reserved for a whole game of theater shows for both children and adults and for performances of South Bohemian accordionists. The program is further enlivened by fair singers, swordsmen, jugglers, magicians, catching the South Bohemian carp barehanded from a trough, and other attractions for both young and old.
The event takes place on the green in the middle of the picturesque village of Holašovice. The green preserves a ground plan dating from the Middle Ages and the houses also preserve the style given them by their builders, known as South Bohemian Folk Baroque. In 1998 this small village was entered on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
