History of the festival

Short history of the festival

The first year of the festival took place on the turn of millennium, in year 2000, following decision of the highest town authority - municipality of town Vsetin. Vsetin municipal house is main organizer and is partly financing the festival. Other organizers are 2 folklore ensembles Jasenka and Vsacan; co-organizer is also Dům Kultury Vsetin (House of Culture Vsetin).

Many social gatherings became progressively part of the festival activities. Mayer of the town traditionally welcomes ensembles in the historical Vsetin castle premises, social importance of festivals is underlined by introducing new books with folklore themes, highlight is then awarding by the honorary citizenship of town Vsetin.

Honorary citizenship of town Vsetin was during festival Vsetin krpec given to two people. During the second festival year was by the citizenship awarded ice-hockey player and member of HC Vsetin Jiri Dopita and in 2006 (IV. festival year) it was Stanislav Tomanec, musician and singer of cembalo music Jasenka. Mr. Tomanec was awarded on him 8oth birthday by the mayor of town Vsetin.

The visitors of the festivals could see for past 4 festival years together 21 foreign ensembles, 8 ensembles from other Czech regions, 4 children’s ensembles, 3 brass music and many other interesting musical and dancing groups. Apparent are performances of the Vsetin ensembles, their children’s ensembles and local cembalo music.
