9th Gala Concerts “Little Singer - Nightingale” and “Singing for Joy”
9 to 11 October 2009, Prague
The frequent contacts between Czech and Slovak organizers of folklore events, combined with the fact that the world-known Slovak opera tenor Peter Dvorský is patron of both Czech and Slovak child singer contests (see “Little Singer”, 15-17 May) gave rise to the idea of arranging a joint international concert of the winners of both contests. The first of these concerts took place in 2001 in Bratislava. Its high level posed a challenge for the Folklore Association of the Czech Republic. In 2002 the Association, in cooperation with the Czech Broadcasting company and other partners, succeeded in organizing two concerts in Prague Congress Center: a winners´ concert with the best “little singers” and “nightingales” and a star concert in which the children were joined by renowned adult artists. The gala concerts “Little Singer - Nightingale” and “Singing for Joy” are a veritable feast of folk songs and their audience will certainly be delighted.
