20th Folklore Festival “The Year in the Country”
27 and 28 August 2010, Velká Bystřice
The folklore festival with international participation “The Year in the Country” is held annually on a covered stage in the Castle Square in Velká Bystřice u Olomouce. It invites adult and children´s folklore ensembles from Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia, but also at least three foreign groups. The festival focuses on traditional folk culture and is peculiar in that it only chooses ensembles that stage the year-round customs and rituals of their regions. However, in an additional program they may present other, non-thematic performances of their own choice.
The town boasts several precious historical monuments, such as the church of the Beheading of St John the Baptist, the sculpture of St Florian and St John of Nepomuk, and a Renaissance castle. Visitors may also take a short trip to the nearby historical city of Olomouc and the pilgrimage site of Svatý Kopeček (Holy Hill) near Olomouc.
