11th European Traditions Festival
3 to 8 November 2009, Pardubice Region
European Traditions is a children´s international festival addressing mostly school children. It plays host to children´s ensembles from at least four countries every year. This project is particular in that the performances take place in a different town of the Pardubice region every day.The ceremonial opening is always in Chrudim, and then the festival goes to Ústí nad Orlicí, Dolní Čermná, Přelouč, Svitavy, and Pardubice. The extraordinary variety of the program and its educational action on its young audience are greatly appreciated. The festival was created thzough the iniciative of several closely associated East Bohemian ensembles. Tne members of the ensembles Jitřenka (Morning Star), Kuřátka (Chicklings), Radost (Joy), and Perníček (Gingerbread) agreed to provide their foreign friends with an opportunity to present the folk songs and dances of their countries in the Czech Republic. The great interest manifested by the schools of the region led the organizers to the decision to “move” the festival from one town to another.
