15th „Little Singer“
15 to 17 May, Velké Losiny
“Little Singer” is a nation-wide competition of child singers of folk songs. About six thousand children aged six to fifteen years participate in the basic, regional rounds. The fifty best then go on to the semifinal and final rounds, held in the first half of May at Velké Losiny. This event has attained national and international significance. The finalists compete with two songs: one without instrumental accompaniment, the other to the accompaniment of a folk orchestra. Young singers from Slovakia (finalists of the analogous competition “Slovakian Nightingale”) and from other countries participate in the event as guests. More information at www.folklornisdruzeni.cz.
The spa town of Velké Losiny lies north of Šumperk in the scenic valley of the Desná river. It is one of the most frequently visited places in the Jeseníky foothills. Worth visiting are the Renaissance chateau of the Žerotíns, the historical paper mill, and the Spa. More information at www.losiny.cz.
