Advent Chanting
7th Advent Chanting
29 November to 14 December 2009, Říčany The Central Bohemian festival called Advent Chanting is a cycle of concerts organized annually during Advent by the children´s musical ensemble “Mikeš” and by the Society for the History of Lada´s Country [Josef Lada: a renowned Czech painter]. It begins on the first Advent Sunday with a concert and the ceremonial lighting of the Christmas tree in Říčany square, and it continues until Christmas. The festival is an associate of a nation-wide collection for helping sick, handicapped or otherwise affected children (see www.mikes-ricany.wz.cz).
The town of Říčany boasts many historical sights, including the ruins of a 13th century castle, St Peter and Paul church, the old town hall, a Marian column, or a dwelling dating from 1706.
