14th Adámek´s Folklore Festivities
28 to 30 August 2009, Hlinsko
This is an encounter of folklore ensembles in a historical enclave of Hlinsko called Betlém (Bethlehem), which constitutes an open-air museum. It is a non-competition event in which the ensembles represent the folklore of their regions or countries. The festival is named after Karel Václav Adámek (1868-1944), one the foremost cultural representatives of the Hlinsko region. The first day is dedicated to children´s ensembles, on the second day it is the turn of the adult ensembles from the Czech Republic and abroad. Two groups that cannot be missing are the local children´s ensemble Vysočánek and the organizer group Vysočan.
The town of Hlinsko lies on the Czech-Moravian Highlands (Českomoravská vrchovina) between two conservation areas: Žďárské vrchy (Žďár Uplands) and Železné hory (Iron Mountains) in the valley of the Chrudimka river. The beautiful enclave Betlém, chosen by the organizers of the festival, is part of the so-called Set of Vernacular Folk Dwellings Vysočina and thus forms a most appropriate backdrop to the festivities.
